Something smells here!
You had only been playing for 2months, already had 100k to throw around. Was just idle around Thirty River and wanted to cheat the game by creating a dup of an item or weapon!
And your expecting us to believe it was all innocent? and not your fault?
100K 2months in, over the period of 3months?
Only been playing for 2 months.
Was scammed a month ago.
And you had no idea what a scam was or how it worked? An you were totally clueless about the rules?
I smell BS.
I think we should all agree to let this sad example of a thread die!

Yes I love thinking of it that way also. I've been playing GW almost since BETA and I've seen a lot of scams, fallen for a lot of them too. So when I see a scammer in game I try to play a long with their little scam. I try to act like a newb. It is so fun and just makes your day when you call the scammer on their little scam. And then send the I'm going to report you whisper. It's so funny when they freak out. Usually you can tell if it's a kid or an older person doing the scam. The younger ones freak out and beg you not to report them and the older ones just cuss you out really.
To the OP, I've been scammed as have the majority of us, learn from your mistakes and move on don't bring it to the forums, because we've all been scammed we've all seen the scammer threads. When you've been scammed just tell yourself that you were stupid and learn from it. That's what I did everytime I fell for a scam, I got mad and said, "Man that was stupid of me." It made me more aware of my trades and I still check the trade windows atleast about 3 times before hitting accept. Everytime I get a run or ferry I try to pay afterward and if not I'll just find a different runner. And as stated above, you tend to know what's a scam and what's not later on, and then it is so fun to catch a scammer and call them on it.

Hold on, hold on, I just wanna make sure I'm getting this right. Lemme see, first, you were only playing 2 months yet managed to rack up 100k? Pretty impressive, I know players who've been playing for 4 months now, and have maybe 10k to their name. Now, I KNOW you didn't get that 100k just by casual playing, which means you must have either done some pretty serious farming, or bought your gold. Now, anyone who goes from total newb to 100k in "about 2 months" is either brilliantly creative and not dumb enough to fall for such an obvious scam, is smart enough to read forums and sites like Guildwiki and should already be aware of obvious scams like that, or buys gold, in which case, has money to burn and shouldn't be taking his chances on obvious scams when he could just buy what he needed or could just buy enough to recoup his losses. Now, I'm not sure what category you fall into, but whichever of the 3 it was, it's really kinda hard to feel sorry for ya. Now, before you go thinking we're done here, I wanna move on to point number 2. Namely, that by your own admission, you were scammed because you were trying to CHEAT. And you want sympathy for that? Probably not a point in your favor there champ. Okay, I know, you claim you "didn't know what it was"? Pretty interesting excuse that one. "Sorry officer, that guy had NO RIGHT to tackle me and make me bruise my arm. I mean, I didn't know it was illegal to grab that old lady's purse and run off with it!". Yeah, you'll go far with that one. I mean, what, you thought Anet just one day said "hey, let's put a way to duplicate items out in Thirsty River!", and then ALSO thought that if such a method DID exist as a legimate part of the game, there wouldn't be hundreds of players congregating in Thirsty River to dupe their ectos, shards, sup vigors, black dyes, perfect weapon mods, etc etc etc? Did I miss any key points chief?

Boo hoo. You got scammed. The only way to learn your lesson about taking shortcuts in GW is to get scammed. If someone says they want the money upfront don't do it. If someone asks to see the money thats ok. If you want something w/o having to work to get it be prepared for the possibility of getting scammed. *lol* I can't believe you fell for a get rich quick scheme.
I don't believe you can get good enough in 2 months to have 100k. If you buy your gold off the interweb then you obviously have enough RL money to easily replace 100k.
Either you're lying about being scammed or you're a really bad consumer.

Heh well I'd like to point out one thing here that I think the previous 2 posters have not seen,
the guy claimed that he was scammed a month ago
Also that he has only played for 2 months,
that means he has somehow managed to make 100K in one month not two.
When I started it took me over amonth just to get to thirsty river, admitely I was uncovering the map as i went along, and doing bonus missions too, but I didnt get anywhere near 100K untill i got a couple of lucky chest drops and sold very rare weapons,
most farming is time consuming and involves having elites. I can't see anyone getting that kind of money in one month unless they play the game 24/7. Also I do tend to play this game most of the day, so its not like I was only on a couple of hours a day.
Therefore, this poster seems to be cheating himself, which seems likely as he is trying to duplicate items
There is also the point that you can't con an honest man, if it seems to be too good to be true then it isn't. Like others have said, in these circumstances they deserved it

Well 100k in a month is possible for a new player. I did it back when I was new but then again i was also playing at least 12 hours a day . ..
Anyways, why even try to dupe 100k in the first place? for one thing, you wouldn't have been able to pick up 2 piles of 100k . ..
Second of all, why complain that you got scammed when you were trying to cheat the game in the first place?
If you did make 100k legitimately (ie no gold buying) then I would expect you to be able to spot scams.

I'm not going to bother pointing out all the flaws in the op as many have already done.
And normally I would never say this, but anyone who's been scammed this way deserves it.

I feel sorry for people getting scammed, but if you get scammed by someone offering you to "dupe" you deserve it in my opinion.

LOL This thread is as funny as this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=H1P3uvKupxg
Seriously though, people should read guildwiki or other reliable sources of info for guildwars. That will prevent scamming as well as other mistakes.

oooooh I remember this type of scam. Someone tried to use it on me a while ago. I was trying to buy a bone dragon, and they thought I was selling and wanted me to "dupe" it... I just put him on ignore. And lol the insults that followed. Apparently he switched accounts and sent me a message calling me fat and insulting my male sexuality and whatnot... which I laughed about for a long time because I'm neither fat nor male. Oh good times. Then I ignored his other account and he was gone.

And for most part, dishonesty gets it's deserving place, thankfully...
Getting scammed in GW is not a deserved thing. Yes some people could be more wary than they are, but how do they deserve it? If they themselves are a scammer, then get scammed, then yes! They deserve it! But your casual player who thinks they're getting a good deal to get a little 'leg-up' in the GW food chain doesn't deserve to lose their hard earned cash/items to greedy dishonest mofo. There are many rl occasions where honest hard working people get screwed by greedy, lowlife, conscienceless bastards, so how is an online game with real players any different?
When we have "real people" who buy online games soley to scam other real people, that says so much about the sort of person they are deep down. Even if they aren't as dishonest in rl as they are ingame (only through fear of consequences to themselves, not through the guilt of harming other human beings), if they even consider being dishonest ingame, then it's pretty safe to say that deep down they are/can be a dishonest person.
I have not and will never scam anyone in GW (or anywhere online), because in my first 2 weeks of playing I got burnt twice, and have since been very wary. And more to the point, I am a firm believer in the "what goes around comes around" "do unto others" formular...
well, my 2 cents is spent... =oP

Why would you want to duplicate an item in the first place? Greed's got the better of you, hasn't it? Well live and learn, here have half a cookie.

That will Never Happen! I seen backstabber, hundreds of dishonest greedy A55holes who only wan your money and very cunning supervisors who put their own men in deep shlt just to save their ass and always get away with things.
In Real Life... Today they scram, cheat, Backstab or put u in deep shlt tomorrow u'll see them getting alway with your money with fancy cars living in big housing and super hot chicks crowding around as u see him spending the your money like water going down the drain and putting your cash that he has scam u in between the burst line of those chicks or G-strings and he got score everyday in office/home/hotel while u spend your time regretting at home or in a bar(if u still have some cash left) .
How to prevent this from happen??? Learn the ways of scamming u also have know how to be very cunning(no I'm not kidding!)
Why learn learn them??? Because If u read Art or War u should know this phase "Know yourself and Know your enemy" (written in Chinese)
Of coz I dun aspect u guys to scam or something like that but if u know those.. who knows if he try something on u.. U still can strike him back twice the pain and let him feel the pain.
Here my advice to those poor souls out there.

I have to say I agree with the multitude of posters here... you were scammed because you were too greedy. Did you actually give him 100k or an item worth 100k? Did it occur to you that anyone who could dupe items or cash in that amount could simply do it all day long with no need to sell his/her services?

Well I think these 'scammers' may word what they are saying so it doesnt exactly sound like "hey im gonna go dupe your item". And even if the op was trying to cheat through the system, even if he is lieing about the length of time played, the money, or if he does buy gold still takes abit of balls to come on forum and actually inform people about this going on and the fact that he was stupid enough to fall for it himself. I dont think hes looking for your sympathy, more just trying to tell others so they dont fall for it also.

Sorry but was there some kind of bug at one point where items COULD be "dupe'd" or is it just something completely made up? I'm curious.
(not that I'd use it anyway, scamming FTL.)
